Pittsburgh teen accused of shooting man multiple times from back of truck

Authorities have arrested a teenager in connection with the shooting death of a Pittsburgh man Friday evening. Detectives arrested 18-year-old Malachi Smith the same evening as the shooting. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert for 17 shots just after 10 p.m. in the 600 block of Sherwood Avenue. They found Isreal Walker-Young lying in the grass, shot several times in the chest and leg. He later died in hospital. Pittsburgh police viewed city cameras that allegedly showed a truck stopping at an intersection with at least four people inside. One of these people, who was apparently in the truck's bed, allegedly pointed a pistol at a group of passers-by standing on a sidewalk. This person then fired several times, according to authorities. The truck takes off from the camera's view, but authorities say a person then runs into the middle of the grassy area, shooting at the truck before collapsing. Stafford Street with people nearby. An officer told the group to surrender, but authorities say two of them fled the area. Pittsburgh authorities say they set up a perimeter to try to catch the fleeing group and arrested them in the process. The person who was still standing near the truck, as well as the three witnesses, were all questioned by authorities. A witness identified Smith as the person who fired the shots from the back of the truck. That witness said he “observed Mal Mal holding a gun and shooting toward the ground, toward people,” the criminal complaint states. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit made the arrest with assistance from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Unit. US Marshals Western Pennsylvania Apprehension Unit, Violence Prevention Unit and Fugitive Task Force. Smith was arrested for criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license.

Smith was arrested for criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license.
