He was surfing off Goat Island, also known as Mokuauia, near Laie, Hawaii — about 32 miles north of Honolulu — when he was found at 1 p.m., officials told the Star- Advertiser.

Rescuers were able to take him to shore on a jetski.

Appearing in major blockbusters like Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Crush, Perry was also a longtime surfer and lifeguard.

Authorities confirmed he was the victim after his following relatives have been informed.

“Tamayo Perry was a beloved lifeguard, well-known on the North Shore, a professional surfer known around the world,” Acting Ocean Safety Chief Kurt Lager said in a statement.

“Tamayo's personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone more.

“Our condolences go to Tamayo family and to all the Ohana lifeguard. We ask for some privacy for him family Right now.”

Mayor Rick Blangiardi called Perry's death a “tragic loss,” describing the late star as a well-respected “legendary waterman.”

He said: “It’s really hard to imagine, so we just want to pay tribute to our guys.

“I hope everyone wishes family best honors and respect the situation.”

Jason Bitzer, a friend, wrote a tribute to Perry on Facebook, writing: “The things we've seen! My brother in Christ, I love you brah! Tamayo, I won't get over it until I see you in heaven .

“Tamayo Perry, you were not my friend, you were my brother, the pain we collectively feel is immense.”

Emergency crews believed Perry may have suffered more than one shark bite.

DEVOTED WATERMAN

Perry was an instructor for the Oahu Surfing Experience.

His biography on the OSE website states that he has made appearances in several films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Blue Crush and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

“I have been surfing professionally for over 15 years and I got paid to ride the deadliest wave in the world (Pipeline),” Perry wrote in his biography.

He wrote that he had a near-death experience while surfing an extra-large wave.

“A few years ago, while surfing Pipeline in Extra Large size, I was involved in a freak accident that turned into a near-fatal experience.

“The incident happened because of someone else's lack of conscience.”

Perry wrote that he learned lessons from the experience, which inspired him to teach others about surf etiquette and safety.

Emergency crews believed the man may have suffered more than one shark bite.

Earlier this year, an 11-year-old girl was mauled by a shark after the creature grabbed her foot on Oahu.

The girl was reportedly bitten on the left foot on Saturday, March 2, shortly before 1:30 p.m., NBC News reported.

Authorities said she suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“The girl was by the shore, swimming in the water when the incident occurred,” the Honolulu Department of Emergency Services said in a statement.

“A witness described seeing what appeared to be a small reef shark in the area.”
