Photos show Andrew Tate arriving in Romanian court on Tuesday, handcuffed to his brother Tristan and carrying the Koran.

Tate, Tristan and two Romanian women were photographed arriving at the courthouse in a police van.

All four were arrested in December as part of an investigation into human trafficking and rape, and a court approved a request by authorities to jail them for 30 days.

Tuesday's hearing was intended to allow the Tates to appeal the decision to keep them in prison. At the time of publication, the court had not yet decided whether to grant the appeal.

Photos from the courthouse showed Tate carrying a book that Insider identified as a bilingual version of the Quran, Islam's sacred text.

Analysis of the photos compared the book jacket to a translation by MA Abdel Haleem giving an English version alongside the Arabic original:

Tate publicly converted to Islam in October last year – despite the clear conflict between traditional Islamic lifestyles and his webcam pornography activity.

His friend and fellow influencer Tam Khan tweeted a video on October 24, it showed him teaching Tate to pray. Khan also recently posted a video in support of Tate, denying the allegations against him.

Tuesday, Khan posted photos showing Tate holding the Quranwhich Tate's profile retweeted.

Tate's conversion sparked concern among some Muslims who said it was harmful to the community to align with Tate's overt misogyny.

In a video announcing that he was Muslim, Tate said he was going to “find me a nice Islamic housewife and build up a big pile of rocks in case she cools off”, an apparent reference to the belief of some Muslims that people should be stoned to death for adultery.

Yousra Samir wrote in Al Jazeera in November that she feared Tate would use his popularity among far-right Muslim men to rebrand himself.

“We need more and more Muslim men to join us in fighting misogyny in all its forms – online, on campus, at home, in the streets and in the mosque,” Samir wrote .

Tate, his brother and the two women – Georgiana Naghe and Luana Radu – are accused of exploiting the women to produce porn for their online business. Tate and the others were initially detained for 24 hours, which the court extended to 30 days.

Tate has not made any public statements, but his lawyer gave an interview to Romanian media outlet Gândul in which he said there was no evidence against the brothers.
