FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Several Fayetteville firefighters spent hours battling a fire that broke out at the Rogers and Breece Crematorium Thursday night.

According to the Fayetteville Fire Department, crews responded around 8:30 p.m. to a commercial structure fire at 510 North Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw a heavy fire rising from the roof of the crematorium, the Fayetteville Fire Department said.

After battling the fire for nearly an hour, the fire is now under control, authorities said.

“Rogers and Breece Crematoria sustained heavy damage and fire crews remain on scene to ensure no further hazards are present,” according to a social media post from the Fayetteville Fire Department.

Fayetteville fire officials said because operations are still ongoing, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Damage to the business is estimated at about $50,000, according to a news release from the fire department.
