Pert Near Sandstone String Group to Play Thrasher at Green Lake

FOND DU LAC – Pert Near Sandstone will bring their Road To Blue Ox tour to the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake for a concert at 7:30 p.m. on June 1.

Pert Near Sandstone recorded their first album over 10 years ago. In 2015, the group co-founded the Blue Ox Music Festival, which annually attracts folk music fans from across the country. Some of the artists featured at the festival include Bela Fleck, Tyler Childers, Jerry Douglas, Margo Price, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, among others.

Pert Near Sandstone appeared at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, sharing the bill with Trampled By Turtles, Del McCoury Band and Sam Bush.

Local organizations hold blood drives for the Red Cross

The American Red Cross is asking the public to donate blood or platelets to help hospitals prepare for any transfusion needs. There is still a need for type O and platelet donors.

A blood donor card, driver's license or two other forms of identification are required. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in good general health may be eligible to donate blood. Donors under 18 must also meet certain height and weight requirements.

Comedy 'Blue Ribbons' makes its world premiere in Ripon

Ripon Area Community Theater will present the world premiere of the comedy “Blue Ribbons” from May 31 to June 2.

Written by Thomas Bakken, the play is about love, hate and pie. Over the past 20 years, Anne Cross and Deloris Doyle have both won the coveted blue ribbon at the annual town fair and are tied for 10th each. Their antics in competing for the next victory take a toll on their families and the community.

Show times are 7 p.m. on May 31 and June 1, and 2 p.m. on June 2 and will take place at the Ripon High School Auditorium, 850 Tiger Drive. Doors open 30 minutes before the performance. There will be a bake sale and 50/50 raffle during intermission to support Ripon Area Community Theater.

The Planning AHEAD program aims to help plan for the end of life

The Ripon Public Library will host an AHEAD planning program this summer. The program is open to residents of Green Lake, Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties.

Planning AHEAD is a UW-Madison Division of Extension course for end-of-life planning. Participants will learn how to make their wishes known, manage finances, legal requirements and documentation, distribution of personal property, grief management and much more.

The program is aimed at people of all ages who wish to prepare for their own death or that of a loved one. It is open to anyone who wants to anticipate the inevitable and share their wishes.

Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays June 5 through July 24 at the Ripon Library, 120 Jefferson St. (No classes July 3.) A workbook is included.

Marian offers an academy to potential students

Marian University's Upward Bound Summer Math and Science Academy will be held this year from June 17 to July 26. The course is intended to prepare prospective first-generation students and/or students from economically challenged backgrounds to attend college. A closing ceremony is planned for July 31.

The UBMS Summer Academy will include visits to university campuses and major companies. Participants will also explore places such as Chicago's Shedd Aquarium and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Geology Museum.

Featured classes, workshops and seminars, hosted at Marian, will be taught by Marian faculty and local high school teachers. Courses include: Applied Mathematics, Environmental Science, Food Science, Latin for Math and Science, Oral Communication, and World Literature: Science Fiction.

St. Agnes Hospital Recognized for Organ Donation Efforts

SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital was among 21 hospitals recognized by UW Organ and Tissue Donation, a federally designated organ procurement organization that serves more than 100 hospitals in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois. The organization gives five different awards to hospitals and staff in recognition of their efforts.

SSM Health St. Agnes received an Excellence in Tissue Donation Award, as well as a Bronze Hope Award. Kristy Krause, director of nursing and hospital liaison for UW-OTD, and Emily Hoepfner, director of nursing, accepted the award.

The Tissue Donation Excellence Award is presented to partner hospitals that achieve a consent rate of at least 63%, while the Hope Award recognizes the work of hospitals that meet or exceed goals to maximize donation. gift of life.

ThedaCare Physicians clinics honored for vaccination efforts

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services awarded its annual Wisconsin BigShot Awards to providers for their efforts in keeping pediatric patients up to date on routine childhood immunizations.

According to a press release, there are four categories of BigShot rewards:

Providers who vaccinate 90% or more of their patients according to the recommended 4:3:1:3:3:1:4 schedule for ages 24 to 36 months.
Providers who have 90% or more of their patients received at least 1 dose of hepatitis A vaccine within 24 months.
Providers who have 80% or more of their adolescent patients ages 13-17 up to date on Tdap, meningococcal, and who have completed the HPV series.
Providers who have 95% or more of their patients received at least one dose of MMR vaccine before 24 months of age.
