Person robbed by 12-year-old in Northwest DC

Investigators say the 12-year-old approached the victim and implied he had a weapon.

WASHINGTON — A 12-year-old was arrested after police say he robbed someone in Northwest D.C. last month.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the theft occurred in the 1400 block of Irving Street, Northwest, shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday, May 10.

In the incident report, police say the 12-year-old asked the victim if she was from the area. When the victim said no and tried to continue walking, the boy told him to stop. The victim told the boy to relax, to which the 12-year-old allegedly responded, “I'm going to poke you.” That's when the victim told police she heard what sounded like “a handgun when its slide is in the reading position.”

The boy allegedly took the victim's cell phone out of his pocket.

“[The victim] “He did not physically see the object because he was afraid to look down,” the report states.

The 12-year-old then fled with the victim's phone and backpack, as well as other items. A little over a month later, the 12-year-old was arrested and charged with theft.
