Person found shot to death near Joliet building, police say

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) – A 25-year-old man was found shot to death near an apartment building in Joliet Wednesday evening.

Joliet police said the shooting happened just before midnight in the 2300 block of White Birch Lane.

Police arrived on scene following reports of shots fired in the area. They found the victim unconscious and with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot near the building.

Police said officers rendered medical aid to the victim until paramedics from the Joliet Fire Department arrived.

The victim was transported to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives and evidence technicians conducted a thorough search of the area and found more than 20 spent shell casings near where the victim was found. Three unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot and an apartment window were also hit by gunfire, according to police.

No other injuries were reported. The victim's identification and manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner's Office.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
