Person arrested in connection with fatal shooting of 28-year-old man in Pittsylvania County

WOUNDED, Virginia. – One person is currently in custody in connection with a shooting that left a 28-year-old man dead, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday around 8:15 p.m., deputies were called to the 1600 block of Shula Drive in Hurt, Virginia, for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man, later identified as Jimmy Dee Hardwick, 28, who had been shot. The victim then received medical treatment, but died at the scene, authorities said.

Investigators later learned that a person of interest had left the scene prior to arrival, but after searching the area, officers located the individual and took him into custody without incident. Deputies did not identify the said individual but said criminal charges are expected.

Hardwick will be transported to the Western District of Virginia Medical Examiner's Office where the cause and manner of death will be determined, according to deputies.
