Perrier wins sheriff election

In the June 18 Republican primary vote, challenger Bart Perrier defeated incumbent Osage County Sheriff Eddie Virden by more than 1,200 votes. Perrier received 2,640 votes (65.95%), while Virden received 1,363 votes (34.05%). The county board of elections certified the result Friday afternoon, June 21.

Perrier, a Barnsdall area native, previously worked as an Osage County deputy sheriff and as a special ranger for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He was very busy after the elections, working on reconstruction. He lost his home to the tornado that hit Barnsdall on May 6.

Perrier, for whom becoming Osage County sheriff is a lifelong goal, released a brief statement in response to a request for comment.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to have been elected sheriff of Osage County,” Perrier said. “I want to thank voters for their trust, support and belief in me. I look forward to serving our county with dedication, transparency and respect for the law. Together, we will work to maintain safety, foster trust, and uphold the principles that make Osage County a great place to live and work.

The election board also certified the results of the Republican primaries for Osage County clerk and District 2 commissioner, as well as the special election for District 1 commissioner.

In the county clerk primary, Christina Robertson Talburt defeated incumbent County Clerk Robin Slack, 1,990 votes (50.88%) to 1,921 votes (49.12%).

In the District 2 commissioner primary, incumbent Commissioner Steve Talburt defeated challenger Bud Beaston II by a tally of 772 votes (54.29%) to 650 votes (45.71%).

In the special election for District 1 Commissioner, Acting Commissioner Anthony Hudson defeated former Commissioner Randall Jones, 1,325 votes (74.06%) to 464 votes (25.94%). Hudson will serve the remainder of the four-year term that Dr. Everett Piper won in 2022 and began serving in January 2023. Piper resigned at the end of March 2024 and recommended Hudson to succeed him.

In the county court clerk primary, Lavender Carroll leads Emily DeLozier by a margin of nearly 30 percent. The standing vote tally is 2,498 votes (64.92%) for Carroll, compared to 1,350 votes (35.08%) for DeLozier.

The election board was unable to certify the result Friday because DeLozier had requested a recount. Board of Elections Secretary Kelly Chouteau said a hand recount of votes is scheduled for Thursday, June 27 at 9 a.m. in the third floor courtroom of the Osage County Courthouse.

There are no Democratic, Libertarian or independent candidates for the five county offices that were on the June 18 ballot, so the winners will be the incumbents in the positions they sought.

The margin in the county court clerk primary is large enough that it is not expected that a recount could possibly change the outcome.

The June 18 election results mean Steve Talburt, Anthony Hudson and Charlie Cartwright will remain on the Board of County Commissioners.
