Perfect Dark Reboot Trailer Shows Joanna Dark Hunting Bad Guys in Near Future Cairo

It's been a long, long time since we learned that one Perfect dark the reboot was in the works, and there are finally new signs of life. A gameplay trailer was shown during the Xbox Games Showcase, although there is no release date or window yet.

Xbox is billing the reboot as a “near-world first-person secret agent thriller” that includes elements of immersive simulation and stealth action. Based on this first look, co-developers The Initiative and may have nailed the brief.

The clip shows Joanna Dark traveling to a nearby version of Cairo in search of a villain with a radioactive device. She is able to capture the voiceprints of goons to open voice-activated door locks, and she can kick walls to climb drain pipes and gain extra distance for jumps. In addition to blasting enemies with guns, Joanna also has hand-to-hand combat skills.

According to a Xbox Wire blog post, you'll have a range of traversal abilities and gadgets at your disposal, so you can choose how to complete missions. I'm just a little disappointed that there's no trace of a portable gun.

The blog post also notes that “at the broadest level, Perfect dark will be a single-player experience. ” This could hint that there will be multiplayer modes as well. Fingers crossed for that, as the original game Perfect dark was a better multiplayer shooter than Golden Eye 007.
