Pennsauken Summer Kickoff shut down, 6 people arrested – NBC10 Philadelphia

Six people were arrested Saturday night as unruly crowds formed at the summer kickoff celebration in Pennsauken, New Jersey, Saturday evening.

Police say the incident occurred as Pennsauken Township, New Jersey, hosted a summer kickoff event at the community's soccer complex Saturday evening.

During the event, officials said, large crowds formed outside the event as community members enjoyed the evening.

Those crowds became unruly, which officials say led them to end the event early.

The kickoff was scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., but around 8:44 p.m., following an announcement on social media, community leaders ended the event early.

After the event ended, police officials said, officers worked to clear the unruly crowd, and six people – four adults and two children – were then arrested.

Authorities identified the four adults as: India Allen, 19, of Pennsauken, Yamilet Meina, 18, of Camden City, Damien Green, 20, of Pennsauken and Derek Berry, 18, of Pennsauken. They were all charged with disturbing the peace and failure to disperse the offenses.

In a statement, Chief Philip Olivo of the Pennsauken Township Police Department thanked all officers from the surrounding communities who helped control the crowd Saturday.

“This type of unruly behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in Pennsauken Township,” he said in a statement.
