Peel police identify man fatally shot in Brampton

Peel police have identified a man who was fatally shot in Brampton early Tuesday.

Amanjot Bains, 36, died at the hospital after being shot in a plaza near Dixie Road and Peter Robertson Boulevard, police said. Police were called to the scene shortly before 1 a.m.

Peel paramedics found Bains in life-threatening condition, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He was transported to a trauma center, where he died.

Investigators are calling for witnesses.

“Based on the investigation, police are aware that several potential witnesses were in the area at the time of the shooting, but have not yet had an opportunity to speak with investigators,” police said Tuesday in a statement.

Earlier Tuesday, police said a suspect fled the area in a red vehicle.

The Peel Homicide and Missing Persons Office continues to investigate.
