Pedestrian killed on Route 46 identified

Authorities have identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 46 in Parsippany last week as a 55-year-old man from Essex County.

Gerard J. Calcagno, of Bloomfield, was struck by an SUV on the east side of the highway near Starbucks around 9:50 p.m., the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Calcagno was pronounced dead at the scene near Baldwin Road, officials said. The driver stopped and spoke to police. The accident remains under investigation, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office said Tuesday.

A graduate of what is now Essex County Schools of Technology in West Caldwell, Calcagno is survived by his sister, brother and numerous cousins, according to an online obituary.
