Pedestrian identified, driver cited after fatal Nashville crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The pedestrian killed in Tuesday evening's fatal crash on Murfreesboro Pike near Fesslers Lane has been identified as Douglas White, 63, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Police said White and his friend were walking on the sidewalk when a tractor-trailer pulled into a driveway. White ran into the side of the tractor-trailer and was knocked to the ground and fatally pinned, police said.

The driver of the semi-trailer, Hassan Yusuf, 56, left the scene on foot and was found by police. Yusef told authorities he did not realize he had hit anyone, police said.

Police issued summonses for Yusef leaving the scene of an accident involving death and failure to render aid.

Police said there were no signs of impairment at the scene on Yusef's part.

Toxicology tests will be performed on White to determine if impairment was a factor, police said.
