Pawtucket police announce arrest in shooting

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket police announced an arrest following a shooting that occurred yesterday afternoon.

José Medina Alvarez, 20, was arrested on numerous charges, including: felonious assault, driving while shooting, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, carrying a pistol without a license and shooting in an area compact.

According to a news release, around 2:45 p.m., Pawtucket police responded to the corner of West Avenue at Jefferson Street for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a crime scene with several shell casings on the ground as well as blood.

An investigation by detectives revealed that a suspect's vehicle approached the scene and two individuals got out.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, exited the store and a suspect fired shots at the victim, hitting him several times.

The two attackers fled and fired as they left.

The victim's friends at the scene transported the victim to an area hospital.

Officers and investigators were able to obtain a description of the vehicle and were able to locate and arrest three people.

Alvarez would ultimately be charged.

The victim still remains in critical condition.
