Paterson man accused of role in triple shooting arrested in Pennsylvania

A 19-year-old Paterson man has been charged in connection with a homicide that occurred on October 3, 2023 in the area of ​​Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson.

Brayan Caraballo, 19, of Paterson, is charged with first-degree murder; conspiracy to commit first degree murder; attempted first degree murder; unlawful possession of a weapon, second degree; and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second degree.

On October 3, 2023, at approximately 3:47 p.m., police were dispatched to Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson for a reported shooting. Three victims with gunshot wounds were located. The first victim, Jerrell Wright, 23, of Riverdale, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's University Medical Center. The other victims, Shaheem Clark, 19, of Elmwood Park, and Charles Obee, 57, of Paterson, survived.

The ensuing investigation identified Caraballo as one of the people involved in the shooting. A 16-year-old man was previously arrested for his part in the shooting and is being held pending prosecution.

Caraballo was arrested in Pennsylvania and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will file a motion for pretrial detention, which will be heard by a Superior Court judge at a later date.

Murder carries a penalty of a minimum of 30 years up to life imprisonment.
