Parts of the Bay Area will receive a heat advisory as temperatures approach 100 degrees this week

Part of the Bay Area will be under a heat advisory in effect this week as a high pressure system moves into the region from the Pacific.

The National Weather Service said inland portions of the North Bay and East Bay will experience significant warming starting Tuesday. The advisory will go into effect at 8 a.m. Tuesday and end at midnight Thursday.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the 90s and near 100 degrees. Late evening and overnight temperatures will offer a break from the heat; the NWS expects temperatures to drop to between 60 and 70 degrees.

The South Bay will also have a heat advisory, but it won't be in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the NWS. It will end on Thursday evening.

Similar temperatures are expected in the South Bay. However, further inland there could be temperatures of 100 to 103 degrees, the NWS said. At night, temperatures will drop into the 60s.

Coastal regions are not expected to experience high temperatures. The NWS expects temperatures to range from the 60s to mid 70s.

Residents are advised to take precautions as high temperatures could cause heat-related illness.
