Parolee arrested after allegedly hitting father

A local parolee was arrested Thursday night on battery charges after allegedly punching his 63-year-old father in the face multiple times.

Brad Austin Brown, 26, of 119 Disney St., was arrested at his home shortly before 9 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, in because of his father's age.

Brown, who also had a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear, was initially being held on no bond. He pleaded not guilty to the charge Friday in Garland County District Court and his bond was reduced to $7,500 with a felony review hearing set for July 19. He remained in custody Friday afternoon.

According to court records, he was convicted on April 16, 2019, of residential burglary, theft of property involving a firearm and fleeing and was sentenced to five years in prison, then released on parole.

According to the probable cause affidavit, around 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Garland County Sheriff's Deputy Colleen Smith went to the Disney Street residence regarding a domestic dispute.

She saw a man, later identified as Brown, standing at the end of the driveway when she arrived. She asked him what happened, and he allegedly told her that he and his father had argued and that at one point Brown had hit his father. He then noticed his father standing near a pickup truck at the top of the driveway.

Smith made contact with the father and noted that he had redness and swelling on both sides of his face and blood was coming from his nose. He also reportedly had blood on his hands, pants and arms, which he said came from his nose.

She asked him what happened and he said he and his son had an argument that turned physical. He said his son became angry and “lost control” and punched him in the face three times, injuring him.

Brown was taken into custody and transported to the detention center without further incident.
