Parents trafficked their 14-year-old daughter for sex for just $20, SC sheriff says.

A South Carolina couple is facing human trafficking charges after detectives found evidence they offered their 14-year-old daughter to men for as little as $20, investigators say.

The number of cases involved was not revealed, but a search warrant showed the girl's father had earned up to $1,400 “simply going back and forth with his daughter,” the Anderson County Sheriff's Office in a May 23 news release.

Jail records show the couple was arrested on April 6, just days after the investigation began. They are accused of trafficking persons under the age of 18 and both were unable to obtain bail. McClatchy News is not naming the man or woman to protect their daughter's identity.

Investigators did not say how they discovered the girl was being abused.

“The case began in Greenville County, however, this mother and father live in Anderson County, which prompted our Criminal Investigation Division to take action,” County officials said. Anderson in the press release.

“These parents made a concerted effort to find people who would give them money and basically their children were the bargaining chip.”

Detectives discovered the couple had taken the girl to an address in Greenville County “every time this guy asked,” Detective Will Freestate said. The man in his 60s knew the girl because she was “dating” his son, authorities said.

“The little girl told me she didn't want to go anymore, but her dad told her she was going every time (the suspect) texted,” Freestate said.

“The guy was sending them $20. We did a search warrant on their Cash App, and in one month, I think this guy made $1,300…$1,400 just running his daughter back and forth.

The Greenville County man was arrested April 25 and charged with participating in the prostitution of a minor, according to Greenville County Jail records.

A North Carolina man also “took advantage of the parents' offer” and was arrested in Polk County and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said.
