Oxford school board members resign as parents of shooting victims call for dismissal

OXFORD, Michigan. – The last two members who served on the Oxford school board during the high school mass shooting in November 2021 have resigned.

Members Mary Hanser and Heather Shafer announced their resignations Wednesday (June 12) after parents of victims killed in the 2021 high school mass shooting requested their removal.

The resignations come a day after the State Board of Education called out Michigan lawmakers. to fund and conduct an independent review of the deadly Oxford High School shooting.

The complaint was signed by Madisyn Baldwin's mother, Nicole Beausoleil; Tate Myre's father, Buck Myre; Justin Shilling's parents, Jill Soave and Craig Shilling; and Hana St. Juliana's father, Steve St. Juliana.

With the resignation, two seats are now vacant on the seven-member board of the Oxford Board of Education..
