Overwatch 2 Players Say Mythic Weapon Skins Aren't Worth Their Price

Mythic Weapon skins are coming to Overwatch 2, and players are unhappy with the final cost of these skins compared to Mythic Hero skins.

Gameplay aside, Overwatch 2's move to free-to-play has received a mixed reaction from its player base since Blizzard has adopted many live service tropes that players no longer like. Battle Passes with locked heroes, expensive skins and more are just some of the complaints.

And, even though Blizzard listened to the community by making all heroes free, players still have complaints about the game's monetization.

With the Season 11 mid-season update, Mythic weapon skins will be added to Overwatch 2. Similar to Valorant's premium skins, Reinhardt's Mythic Bound Demon weapon skin will allow players to skin the Tank's hammer with flourishes and other effects for 50 Mythic Prisms, while additional effects cost 10 Prisms.

After reiterating the pricing model in a Reddit thread, one player suggested Blizzard change its approach to mythic weapon skins and the currency that powers them.

“Either Blizzard decreases the unlock price to 30 or increases the BP Prisms to 100,” they shared since players only earn 80 Prisms in a Battle Pass provided they complete it.

With this in mind, the player judged this practice “excessively greedy, even by their standards”.

It didn't take long for players to catch on to the previous Battle Pass mentioned by the OP. “Honestly, I think the changes to Mythic skins are just to ensure that people buy the Battle Pass even when they suck. The content of this BP is really weak in my opinion, but I will get it for the Prisms,” one replied.

For reference, here are the prices attached to Mythic Prisms when purchased outside of earning them through the Battle Pass.

Getting your hands on a Mythic weapon skin would cost a minimum of $40 USD. Meanwhile, legendary skins typically cost around $15-$20 when released and go on sale for even lower prices.

“Stop giving them money to begin with,” said one player, while another added: “EVERYTHING costs too much in this game, honestly.”

Aside from the Mythic weapon skins, Season 11 will see the return of the Pink Mercy skin, a Colosseo overhaul, a new map, and much more.
