Overnight fire damaged and destroyed nearly 15 boats at Lake Mead Harbor

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — About 15 boats were damaged or destroyed in an overnight fire that broke out at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina in the Lake Mead Recreation Area, according to the National Park Service.

NPS officials said the fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Emergency personnel responded and the fire was under control within a few hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the NPS.

Around 15 boats were damaged or destroyed in the fire and the owners of the affected boats were informed of the damage by staff. The marina will remain open to the public, but NPS officials announced a partial closure of the R and I harbor docks as the investigation continues.

Visitors are urged to use caution when accessing Hemenway Harbor and open portions of the Las Vegas Marina due to potential safety concerns, the NPS said.
