The sheriff's office said an extensive research process ensued to decide which cameras to use before choosing Axon.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — On Tuesday, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) announced it will use cameras from Axon Inc. for its body camera/dash cam project.

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved the project for the 2024-25 fiscal year budget. The sheriff's office said an extensive research process ensued to decide which cameras to use before deciding on a contract with Axon.

“This contract award will provide the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office with state-of-the-art body camera and dash camera video capabilities throughout the county,” reads the OCSO release. “Axon body cameras are used by more major law enforcement agencies than any other brand in the world.”

Axon also provides law enforcement and first responders with Taser energy devices, cloud-hosted digital evidence management solutions, productivity software and real-time operations capabilities. They provide these cameras as well as body and in-car cameras to first responders in international, federal, state and local law enforcement, fire, corrections, emergency medical services and the justice sector.

“Through features built into Axon’s solutions, law enforcement can connect with partners, from county officials to neighboring agencies to prosecutors working on a case,” OCSO said in its release .

OCSO said work to begin implementing the countywide system for the sheriff's office will begin in the coming weeks. The project will include approximately 200 body cameras and 120 car cameras, as well as software and operating systems.
