Oswego County TodayOswego County Deputy Sheriff Completes Statewide Civilian Training Program

Deputy Mario Gomes with Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.

OSWEGO – Fifty-six deputy sheriffs and civilian staff members from sheriff's offices across the state attended the New York State Sheriffs' Institute's civilian school held recently in Albany, including the sheriff's deputy from Oswego County, Mario Gomes. This was the second week of a two-week, ten-day training program offered annually by the Sheriffs' Institute.

All sheriffs have civil law enforcement functions, including serving process and enforcing judgments and other court orders and warrants. The school provides participants with training on the latest advances in civil law enforcement and a forum to discuss current issues in civil law enforcement and share best practices.

The Sheriffs' Institute is a nonprofit corporation established in 1979 to advance criminal justice education, prevent juvenile delinquency, and support victims of crime and their families.
