OSP Journal: Linn County officer-involved shooting under investigation

FRIDAY MAY 24

• 3:36 p.m. — Officers responded to a motorcycle crash on Highway 19, approximately 17 miles south of Arlington, that claimed the life of James Nicholas Braithwaite, 58, of Pasco, Washington. OSP's preliminary investigation revealed that Braithwaite was heading south on a Harley Davidson when he left the road for unknown reasons and went down a steep embankment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

THURSDAY MAY 30

The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Section is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Linn County.

According to OSP, the Linn County Sheriff's Office responded to 29380 Speasl Road in a rural part of the county at 8:16 p.m. on May 30 for a report of a domestic dispute involving a gun. fire. While on their way to the residence, a firearm was allegedly discharged into the residence.

Officers arrived and located the suspect, Gino Anthony Marcoccia, 49, of Lebanon, outside the residence. Marcoccia was allegedly armed with a rifle and aggressively advanced toward a deputy while ignoring commands to drop the firearm. Approaching the officer, the deputy shot Marcoccia, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. No members of law enforcement were injured during the incident.
