Oroville bus shooter gets maximum sentence – Chico Enterprise-Record

OROVILLE — The man convicted of shooting several people and killing one on a Greyhound bus in Oroville in 2022 was sentenced to life in prison Friday.

Asaahdi Coleman, 23, was found guilty of murdering Karen Dalton, 43, who was traveling with her 14-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter at the time. Coleman also shot three other people, including Dalton's daughter, who was shot twice, including once in the face.

According to a news release issued Friday by Butte County Prosecutor Mike Ramsey, Dalton's daughter said she had recurring nightmares about the incident. Rose Whitley, 27, and Boby Farber, 34, also testified.

Whitely, through a victims' advocate, told the court that shrapnel had lodged in his tailbone, causing him constant pain. Additionally, Whitely was pregnant at the time of the shooting and therefore gave birth prematurely.

Farber, who was paralyzed after being shot, testified that he, too, was in constant pain from the shooting.

The release states that Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mark Murphy noted during the sentencing hearing that Coleman had been professionally determined to have an antisocial personality disorder as well as a mental disorder. narcissistic personality and called Coleman “deeply flawed and dangerous.”

Judge Corie Caraway sentenced Coleman to 74 years and eight months to life in prison.

However, Ramsey said California's juvenile parole law allows Coleman to be eligible for parole after 25 years in prison.
