On Tuesday, the Magic stopped by the YMCA in downtown Orlando to reveal an upgraded teen room outfitted with new video game consoles and games, artwork, team-signed memorabilia, study tables and gaming chairs.

“Here we are unveiling a room that we remodeled for the YMCA for kids to enjoy – not just for today, but for a very long time,” said Maritza Martinez-Guerrero, vice president of external affairs and marketing. Magic's philanthropy. “It’s a very versatile space, and we hope they enjoy it a lot.”

The YMCA, already known for giving young people access to basketball courts and fitness, is now giving them the chance to have fun on the virtual court as well.

“We are very excited to add electronic games to our teen center,” said Kristen Cole, district vice president of the YMCA of Central Florida. “We are organizing an e-sports tournament which will start in a few weeks. The kids are super excited. We will have leagues and tournaments. They will compete against other Central Florida YMCA teams, and we'll see where it goes from there.

Those who attended the unveiling were treated to a Papa Johns pizza party while they toured the new space.

This is the second teen room renovated by the Magic in as many months. In May, Magic and AdventHealth surprised a local Boys and Girls Club by renovating their own teen bedroom.

“These are long-term investments in spaces that, because of their mixed-use nature, will be heavily used by young people in this area,” Martinez-Guerrero said. “We hope they will develop healthy habits, build community and develop a positive attitude, all under the auspices of an Orlando Magic experience.”
