Orange County shooting leaves 13-year-old dead, another teen hospitalized

Police are investigating after a shooting killed a 13-year-old and left another teen hospitalized in Orange County.

A suspect, Raymond Mario Jimenez, 27, was arrested in connection with the fatal incident, Santa Ana police said Wednesday.


The shooting happened June 5 near the area of ​​900 West Bishop Street in Santa Ana around 12:17 p.m.

Arriving officers found two victims at the scene: a 13-year-old boy lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his upper torso and a 16-year-old boy at a nearby home, also with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. the upper torso. .

A third victim, a 13-year-old boy, was found near the scene but was unharmed, police said. The injured teens were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

It's unclear what sparked the shooting, but Jimenez had fled the scene before officers could arrive.

On June 7, two days after the shooting, the 13-year-old boy died of his injuries in hospital. The surviving victim, aged 16, remains in critical but stable condition.

That same day, detectives located and arrested Jimenez on multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.

An arraignment hearing is scheduled for July 10 in Orange County Superior Court. Jimenez remains in custody without bail.
