OPP seeking to identify vehicle in ongoing murder investigation

OPP are hoping the community can help identify a vehicle that may be linked to an ongoing murder investigation in New Tecumseth.

On January 21, 2024, human remains were discovered in Adjala-Tosorontio Township, approximately 40 minutes south of Barrie.

The deceased has been identified as William Schernhammer, a 24-year-old man from New Tecumseth. He was reported missing on January 12, 2024.

An individual has been arrested and charged with first degree murder. The matter remains before the courts.

According to the Nottawasaga OPP, on January 12, 2024, between 12:29 a.m. and 12:49 a.m., a vehicle was seen on Parsons Road and Dufferin Street in New Tecumseth. The vehicle is described as a light colored vehicle, possibly a Buick LeSabre from model years 2000 to 2005.

“The driver and/or occupants of this vehicle may have information that could assist in the ongoing investigation,” police said in a statement.

Nottawasaga OPP say their criminal unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Central Region Support Team, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
