One rescued, two injured in Shreveport Jolie Apartments fire

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Multiple firefighters responded to the scene of a major fire at the Jolie Apartments on Sunday.

The Shreveport Fire Department said units were called to the scene on Quail Creek Road. around 2:23 p.m. When the first units arrived six minutes later, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

Authorities said a person hanging from a window was rescued by firefighters. They wouldn't have been hurt.

In less than 13 minutes, units on scene sounded a second alarm due to rising flames. Two firefighters were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The Jolie is one of three apartments under investigation for deplorable living conditions. Utilities are expected to be shut off due to the homeowner's unpaid water and sewer bills.

More than 100 residents of these apartment complexes are in the process of finding new housing as the eviction date approaches.

Each of the building's 12 units was damaged by the fire. The SFD said it believed the affected building was also among the buildings that would soon be evicted. They said some residents had not yet moved out when the fire broke out this afternoon.

Firefighters are still on scene, putting out remaining flames and working to prevent any re-ignition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
