One person shot and killed

PINCH, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man is dead after a late night shooting in the Pinch area of ​​Kanawha County.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, officers were dispatched to the scene of a shooting in the area of ​​54 Stella Drive on Friday at 11:38 p.m.

Metro 911 received a call that a TC Energy construction site security guard had gotten into an altercation with a man at the time of the shooting.

The sheriff's office said when officers arrived on scene, they learned the suspect had pulled behind some oil company trucks stopped on Upper Pinch Road. The suspect subsequently got out of his vehicle and got into trouble with everyone present at the scene, including an armed security guard.

The disturbance then escalated and, according to the sheriff's office, the suspect pulled out a gun and was shot by the security guard.

The suspect, identified as a 64-year-old man from Pinch, died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.

The construction safety officer was not injured during the incident and cooperated with law enforcement.

Detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section are examining the crime scene and are expected to remain there for several hours.

Upper Pinch Road will be closed indefinitely.

At this time, the investigation is in its early stages and no criminal charges have been filed against the security guard.

The sheriff's office says at this time it is too early in the investigation to speculate on whether charges will be filed.
