One person killed in shooting involving Jackson police officers

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Jackson police. According to MBI, the shooting happened on Dixon Road Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the shooting began after officers attempted to arrest an individual. Wade said the suspect tried to open a police cruiser. Wade said officers attempted to subdue the suspect using a Taser, but the suspect continued to fight with officers before attempting to run away. Wade said his officers tried to tase the suspect again, but he was not phased. The chief said the suspect then attempted to approach officers with a knife. Wade said his officers asked the suspect to put down his weapon, but the suspect did not comply, leading officers to shoot the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The chief said an internal investigation into the shooting would also be opened. The victim involved in the shooting and the officers involved have not yet been identified.
