One person killed in early morning shootout with Sioux Falls police, sheriff's office – Sioux Falls Live

SIOUX FALLS — One person was killed in a shootout with police in Sioux Falls Wednesday morning.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, law enforcement officers from the Sioux Falls Police Department and Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office responded to an incident in the 600 block of South Minnesota Avenue.

At the scene, authorities came under fire from inside a business and returned fire, according to Lt. Nick Butler of the Sioux Falls Police Department.

One person was killed in the shooting and no law enforcement officers were injured.

Attorney General Marty Jackley confirmed that the police department and sheriff's office have requested that the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) investigate the shooting. DCI will process the crime scene, conduct a forensic examination of all evidence collected, interview officers and witnesses, and review all video cameras in the area.

No additional information was released as the police department and sheriff's office will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
