One person hospitalized and another arrested after stabbing in Almena canton

ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One man is in the hospital and another is in jail after a stabbing Friday night in Almena Township.

Around 9:10 p.m., deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of ​​M-43 near 29th Street for a stabbing.


Responding officers learned that a fight over food and employment had broken out between two men who lived in the home and that one of them had been stabbed. Both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The victim, a 21-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with an apparent stab wound to the chest. The sheriff's office said his condition was stable but serious.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Guatemala, was arrested and is being held at the Van Buren County Jail, charged with assault with intent to commit murder.

The stabbing remains under investigation.
