One person arrested after double murder on North Goodman Street

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A man has been arrested after fleeing to Puerto Rico in connection with a double murder that happened on North Goodman Street in February.

Police say the arrest is in connection with a February murder that left Wahid Nazario, 49, and Frank Rosario Vasquez, 43, dead.

Major Crimes investigators said that prior to the incident, the two victims had been involved in an altercation with a third individual inside the King and Queen Cantina on North Goodman Street. Police eventually identified that person as 42-year-old Hector Ramos-Diaz.

Police said security removed Ramos-Diaz from the bar and shortly afterward asked Nazario and Rosario Vasquez to leave the bar.

Investigators believe Nazario and Rosario Vasquez were walking toward their vehicle parked on North Goodman Street when Ramos Diaz ambushed them, firing at least 18 shots. Nazario and Rosario Vasquez were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide investigators say Ramos-Diaz fled to Puerto Rico shortly after the killings.

The U.S. Marshals' Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force traveled to Puerto Rico and Ramos Diaz was taken into custody on a sealed Monroe County warrant on March 25.

Ramos Diaz refused to waive extradition and the Monroe County district attorney drafted a gubernatorial warrant that was signed by the governor in June.

Ramos Diaz is being transported to Rochester and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 8 at 1:30 p.m. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say Ramos-Diaz is originally from Puerto Rico and was living in Farmington at the time of the killings.
