One killed, three injured in off-campus shooting – The Oracle

One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting 0.2 miles from campus early Sunday morning, according to the Tampa Police Department.

At 4:40 a.m., Tampa police received a call that two cars had been shot. 11606 McKinley Drive in a parking lot near a Home2 Suites by Hilton and Holiday Inn Tampa Northaccording to the press release.

The USF community received an alert from USF Safe at 5:15 a.m. informing them of the shooting and advising them to avoid the area. After an additional alert, a final alert at 5:54 a.m. indicated that there was no threat to the campus and no future communications were expected.

Summer B student move-in took place on Friday and Saturday. Move-in weekend typically sees an increased number of families per campus.

The shooting happened next to a La Quinta Inn and Suites hotel, recommended by USF Student Support Services for those visiting campus.

The person killed in the shooting is believed to be Charles Jones, a Florida rapper better known as Julio Foolio. However, the identity has not been confirmed by the medical examiner, according to Tampa police.

The other three victims are being treated in hospital, Jonee' Lewis, A Tampa police public information officer said in a statement press conference.

The three injured people are in stable condition, according to the press release.

Tampa police are still investigating the shooting.
