One dead, two in custody after officer-involved shooting in Dallas

Dallas police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 1 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Lancaster Road as police responded to a robbery.

According to the DPD, three suspects fled through the back door of an illegal gambling hall in the area and then jumped a fence to where officers were located.

One of the suspects pointed a gun at a police officer. The officer and the suspect “struggled,” according to the DPD. An officer then fired his gun, hitting one of the suspects.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he died. The other two suspects were not injured and were taken into custody.

No police officers were injured.

A large section of South Lancaster Road is blocked by dozens of police vehicles and will remain closed while the investigation continues.

The DPD said Chief Eddie Garcia will provide an update on the investigation next week.
