One dead, four injured in vehicle crash near Los Alamos

One person died and four others were injured in a car crash on Highway 101 near Los Alamos.

At 4:36 p.m. Thursday, Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the northbound lanes, about a mile south of Alisos Canyon Road.

A southbound vehicle reportedly crossed into the northbound lanes and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on, according to traffic scanners.

Firefighters discovered a total of five patients. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, two seriously injured and two with minor injuries. Extrication was necessary for both vehicles.

Highway 101 northbound was closed for a time while the helicopter landed on the road for a medical evacuation.

The helicopter transported a seriously injured woman to Marian Regional Medical Center. A seriously injured infant and two slightly injured adults were transported by two ambulances to Marian Regional Medical Center.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., a collision occurred about a mile north of Alisos Canyon Road in the northbound lanes of the 101. A Nissan reportedly crossed from the southbound lanes and struck a head-on Ford Ranger. Two people were transported to Marion Medical Center with serious injuries. One person was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency services arrived.

The northbound 101 remains blocked as of 5:25 p.m.
