One dead, five injured in downtown St. Louis shooting

ST. LOUIS — One man is dead and at least five other people have been shot in downtown St. Louis. The shooting happened at 10th and Market Street around 2:30 a.m. on June 23. A St. Louis Metropolitan Police spokesperson held a news conference less than 30 minutes ago, saying District Four officers were already on a call downtown when they heard several gunshots. fire.

When they arrived, they found several people who had been shot. The number of gunshot victims began arriving at the hospital. The deceased man is believed to be 26 years old and another victim is in critical condition.


Most of the victims are in their early 20s. Homicide detectives believe a fight broke out between a group of girls, which escalated when others got involved, leading to gunfire. At least one firearm was recovered at the scene, but it is unclear if it was used in the shooting.

The public affairs director added that a police officer was assaulted during the incident. The alleged perpetrator of the attack was taken into custody and will be charged with assault on a police officer.
