One dead, another hospitalized after jet ski accident near Irondequoit Bay State Marine Park

WEBSTER, N.Y. (WROC) – One woman is dead and another hospitalized following a jet ski accident about three-quarters of a mile west of Irondequoit Bay Inlet Saturday evening.

Police said around 7:18 p.m. they responded to a report of a capsized boat after a man and woman were riding a jet ski that overturned in the water. Police found the man with the capsized jet ski and took him away. The woman who was driving the jet ski was still missing.


The U.S. Coast Guard, MCSO, Irondequoit Ambulance and multiple fire departments responded to the scene to locate the two individuals involved.

The man, who was located by the West Webster Fire Department, was treated and transported to a nearby hospital.

The Coast Guard eventually located the woman and administered CPR before transporting her to Strong Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, it was around 8:10 p.m. that the woman was found.

The identity of the female victim has not yet been released as police are working to notify the family.

According to the police, the cause of the accident could be due to rough water, but they are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.

Police also stressed the importance of wearing a life jacket when on the water and are also asking anyone with information to call 911.
