Omaha police investigate shooting in north Omaha

The Omaha Police Department responded to a shooting near 25th Avenue and Taylor Street around 3 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim, identified as Russell Daryush, 26, was transported to the hospital, where CPR was being performed. The police managed to resuscitate the victim, who is now in stable condition. A second person was treated for a minor injury related to the incident. Police recovered shell casings from the scene and are actively gathering evidence to piece together what happened. “We heard eight to nine gunshots at 24th Street and Cumming Street,” Love said. “So when we heard the shooting, my team and I prepared ourselves because we initially thought the shooting was at 24th Street and Lake Street.”

Love said the shooting was so loud that it seemed closer than it actually was.

“It looked very close, but then people saw it was coming from the Los Diablos Club and heading towards the gas station,” he said. “They said they left because of the shooting at 25th Street and Ames Avenue.”

Authorities have not identified a suspect or determined a motive for the shooting.
