Omaha police arrest 27-year-old man for fatal shooting of 59-year-old man near Carter Lake

Omaha police have made an arrest in the May 17 homicide. Officers responded to the scene near 9th Street and Carter Lake Boulevard for initial reports of a motorcycle crash, but investigators later found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Bernard Leonard, 59, was unresponsive near his motorcycle. Police arrested Brandon Mikesh, 27, on Friday on charges of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence and third-degree arson.Click here for the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7

OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha police made an arrest in the homicide on May 17.

Officers responded to the scene near 9th Street and Carter Lake Boulevard for initial reports of a motorcycle crash, but investigators later found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Bernard Leonard, 59, was unconscious near his motorcycle.

On Friday, police arrested Brandon Mikesh, 27, on charges of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence and third-degree arson.
