Oldham: tribute to teenager hit by car on Rochdale Road

Ethan, 15, was hit by a Seat Ibiza on Rochdale Road at around 8.10pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition but tragically lost his life on Thursday.

A fundraiser was organized in support of the family on Friday by Sharmaine Entwistle, the mother of Ethan's girlfriend. Ms Entwistle said he was “a beautiful child” who was “full of life”.

The family of the teenager, who was a pupil at Oasis Academy Oldham, paid tribute to him later the same day in a statement released by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The release said: “Ethan was a very energetic, funny and loving young boy who always made time for others. He was always smiling. He greatly enjoyed basketball and played for the Oldham State Warriors and more recently the Royton Mavericks .

“Ethan also recently became a basketball referee, which he was proud to do. He attended Oasis Academy Oldham as a student, where he was popular with his friends and peers.

“He is truly missed by his parents, Gillian and Gordon, his sister Abbie, his grandmother Eunice, his stepfather and his half-brothers. We thank people for their continued support and condolences.

“Ethan's legacy will continue to shine in his life with the donation of his organs to save another life. We are truly proud of him both in life and in death. May he rest in peace and we ask him to grieve in private.”

At the time of the incident, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by reckless driving and drugs.

He has been released on bail but police are asking for information about the incident, including CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or via LiveChat at gmp.police.uk. They can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
