Olathe woman seriously injured after crash on I-70 near Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) – An Olathe woman was sent to a Topeka hospital with serious injuries after a late morning crash on I-70 near Lawrence.

The Kansas Highway Patrol accident log indicates that around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, emergency crews were called to the area of ​​mile marker 189.2 on westbound I-70 near Lawrence.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 2023 Chevrolet truck driven by Emmanuel Anyang, 66, of Olathe, a 2005 Jeep Cherokee driven by Pamela Mattes, 57, of Olathe, a 2016 Toyota Rav-4 driven by 35-year-old Brittany Laski. , of Lawrence and a 2013 Nissan Murano driven by Cynthia Werth, 66, of Hays, were all heading west on the highway.

KHP said Mattes' Jeep, Laski's Toyota and Werth's Nissan were all stopped or slowed for traffic, however, Anyang's box truck struck the rear of Mattes' Jeep.

First responders noted that the impact caused Mattes' vehicle to strike Laski's, which struck Werth's. Mattes was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with suspected serious injuries. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.

KHP said Anyang, Laski and Werth all escaped the collision without injury and were wearing their seat belts at the time.
