GIVE A LITTLE EXTRA TIME OR FIND ANOTHER ROUTE AND WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW, OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE MEETING AGAIN AFTER PURCHASE OF 71 ACRES OF LAND IN DEL CITY. THEY SAY, FOR A NEW MENTAL HEALTH ESTABLISHMENT. And it's causing frustration among Dale City leaders, saying it's a backdoor way to bring the new jail to their city. KOCO AUDREY GOODSON, JOINS US NOW WITH WHAT WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE THIS MORNING. Shelby and Kylie, hello. OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE MEET FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS WEEK TO TALK ABOUT THE POSSIBLE FATE OF THE NEW OKLAHOMA COUNTY JAIL. MONDAY, COUNTY COMMISSIONERS announced they had purchased. LAND WORTH $5 MILLION ALONG GRAND BOULEVARD IS FOR A MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY. DEL CITY LEADERS say they are frustrated after months of fighting OKLAHOMA County commissioners to keep the new OKLAHOMA County Jail out of their city and after the city of OKLAHOMA CITY denied their zoning request , said Del City Mayor Floyd Easton. He says it's just a roundabout way of putting the new county jail in their town County commissioners are meeting again today to discuss a letter from the auditor. THE AUDITOR HAS NOT RECEIVED THE COUNTY'S ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY IMPACT THE COUNTY'S BOND RATINGS AND ABILITY TO RECEIVE FEDERAL FUNDING. They make hasty decisions. They've failed in this search for a new prison site consistently over the past three years, and they're not doing any better. We'll be there inside the meeting, so be sure to stay with us in OKLAHOMA CITY. AUDREY GOODSON, KOCO FIVE NEWS. AUDREY, THANK YOU for the headlines this morning. TODAY, STATE LEGISLATORS ARE RETURNING TO THE CAPITOL FOR A SPECIAL SESSION CALLED BY GOVERNOR STITT AND GOVERNOR NOW UNDER FIRE SENATE LEADER GREG TREAT, WHO SAYS LEGISLATORS ARE GOING IN AND OUT INSTEAD OF HOLDING A VOTE. KOCO CAMERON SIBERT AT THE CAPITOL THIS MORNING. FOR US AND THIS SESSION IS FOR A SIMPLE APPOINTMENT. But Cameron says that might not happen. THAT'S RIGHT. IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THE SENATORS HAVE ARRIVED TODAY AND ARE NOT ACTUALLY TAKING VOTES. THIS IS PART OF AN ONGOING QUARREL BETWEEN THE GOVERNOR AND ALSO OTHER SENATORS OVER THE APPOINTMENTS THE GOVERNOR HAS MADE IN RECENT MONTHS, WHILE THEY HAVE ALWAYS DENIED ACTUALLY HAVING A VOTE ON THEM. The other thing to think about is that it's election season right now. MANY SENATORS ARE OUT OF TOWN AS THEY CONTINUE TO CAMPAIGN AHEAD OF NEXT TUESDAY'S PRIMARY. THIS SPECIAL SESSION TODAY IS TO NOMINATE MIKE HOLDER TO THE OSU BOARD OF REGENTS. THE GOVERNOR POSTED THIS ON X, saying he will make a great regent in the Senate. HAS NOT VOTED ON MANY OF HIS RECENT NOMINATIONS. SO HE HOPES THAT THIS WILL BE DONE QUICKLY. SENATE LEADER GREG TREAT CAME BACK TO THE GOVERNOR, SAYING A VOTE CANNOT TAKE PLACE BY TODAY AND SAYS THE GOVERNOR SIMPLY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE PROCESS WORKS OR THE RULE REQUIRES US TO REFER. SHE WAS REFERRED TO BUSINESS AND COMMERCE. I DO NOT THINK SO. This governor has probably already seen a Senate rule book, so I found it hilarious to see that in the email. I hope OKLAHOMANS UNDERSTAND. What's going on and they need to call and ask their senator what they had against Heather Turner or Dr. Corey Finch. UH, AND AND WHAT'S THE REASON, GOVERNOR STITT IS HOPEFUL TODAY FOR A QUICK APPOINTMENT SENT TODAY. Senator Treat says these are possible legislators. DON’T VOTE AT ALL. KOCO WILL BE HERE AT THE CAPITOL TO WATCH CLOSELY TO SEE IF ENOUGH LEGISLATORS SHOW UP FOR SPECIAL SEVEN. SESSION. 25 of them are needed to enter the Capitol Cameron Sibert Koco Five News. CAMERON. THANK YOU. DEVELOPING THIS MORNING AS A SEMI TRAILER WENT IN FLAMES IN OKC JUST BEFORE 2 AM, FIRE CREWS WERE CALLED TO THE TURNPIKE HIGHWAY OFF RAMP TOWARDS I-35 NORTHBOUND. They found this sunken semi-trailer. IN FIRE. Authorities have not revealed what was inside, but our cameras spotted what looked like large rolls of paper. NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED, AND IT IS STILL UNKNOWN WHAT CAUSED THIS. Sky Five was above early this morning. THIS AREA HAS BEEN CLEARED FOR YOUR MORNING CIRCUIT AND I-35 IS RE-OPENED AFTER A POOR CLOSURE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. A PART AT THE BOTTOM. We brought this to you last night at ten o'clock. This accident happened in Lindsay Street, Norman, just after 7.30pm. According to a police officer, a car traveling on I 35, carrying three people, was struck by a Kia Soul. A METRO HOUSE, NOW CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AFTER BEING DAMAGED BY A FIRE. SO IT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. IT WAS NEAR NORTHWEST 32ND AND BLACKWELDER. You see how charred the front of this house is. OKLAHOMA CITY FIRE SAYS IT WAS A VACANT HOME THAT WAS UNDER RENOVATION. NO ONE WAS HURT. AND THIS MORNING WE HAVE A TRAFFIC ALERT FOR DRIVERS DRIVING ON I-235 SOUTHBOUND. LATER THIS MORNING, THE ON-RAMP TO NORTHEAST 23RD STREET WILL CLOSED AND ALSO THE SOUTHBOUND LANES OF I-235 DRIVE WILL BE BACKWARDS BETWEEN NORTHEAST 23RD AND NORTHEAST FIFTH . THIS IS DUE TO AN INSPECTION OF A BRIDGE. THIS CLOSURE ACTUALLY STARTED AT 9:00 AM THIS MORNING AND WILL LAST UNTIL 1:00 PM. Well, Norman voters will decide to build a huge entertainment district. THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED A SPECIAL ELECTION YESTERDAY. THE PROJECT WOULD BRING NEW RESTAURANTS, A NEW ARENA AND MORE TO THE AREA NEAR ROCK CREEK ROAD AT 24TH AVENUE AND NOW THE CITY IS SEEKING TO CREATE A TAX INCREASE FINANCIAL DISTRICT, WHERE ALL SALES TAX IN THIS AREA WOULD BE TOWARDS THIS DEVELOPMENT. NOW THE CITY COUNCIL KNOWS THIS WILL NOT BE PASSED. SO TO AVOID THE WILL OF THE PUBLIC AND CYNICALLY IMPLEMENT A TIF THAT IS MEANT FOR REHABILITATION, WE ARE HERE IN FRONT OF YOU TODAY TALKING ABOUT THE NEXT STEP TO GENERATING NEARLY 5,000 JOBS FROM THE HOUSING NEEDS OF 3,000 PEOPLE. COME BUILD NEARLY 1 BILLION DOLLARS OF PRIVATE INVESTMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY. THE DATE OF THE ELECTIONS, SET FOR AUGUST 27. HOWEVER, THE PLANNING COMMISSION WILL MEET AGAIN TO DISCUSS THIS FRIDAY AND THIS WEEK, BIG DECISIONS COMING FROM THE DENOMINATION THAT DOMINATES OKLAHOMA'S RELIGION. THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION HAS TWO HIGH-PROFILE VOTES, ONE OF THEM SO THAT WOMEN CAN BE PASTORS. LAST YEAR, THE SBC VOTED TO CONTINUE THEIR BAN ON FEMALE PASTORS, AND NOW, A VIRGINIA CHURCH EXPELED BECAUSE BELIEVING WOMEN CAN SERVE AS PASTORS. A PASTOR HERE IN OKLAHOMA SAYS THE VOTE STICKS TO WHAT'S ALREADY WITHIN THE RELIGION. I doubt they will change it because, although anyone in this church knows that there are women who are tremendous leaders in this church, the other high profile vote is considering a resolution that condemns in vitro fertilization or IVF.
