Ohio woman accused of fatally stabbing 3-year-old, injuring mother in unprovoked attack

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (TCD) — Police arrested a 32-year-old woman this week on suspicion of fatally stabbing a young boy and injuring his mother in a store parking lot.

On Monday, June 3, around 3 p.m., North Olmsted Police officers responded to the parking lot outside a Giant Eagle grocery store in reference to a possible stabbing. According to WJW-TV, the victims, 3-year-old Julian Wood, and his mother, Margot Wood, were rushed to the hospital, where the young boy succumbed to his injuries. His mother is expected to survive.

Further investigation revealed that the mother and son had returned to their car after shopping when Bionca Ellis allegedly ran up to them and stabbed them with a kitchen knife. Investigators say Ellis stabbed the toddler in the face and back, and stabbed her mother in the shoulder in less than five seconds, WJW-TV reports.

Officers reportedly found Ellis walking toward a road with the knife and arrested her. Police believe the stabbing was unprovoked and that the victims had not contacted the suspect before the attack.

Ellis reportedly appeared for his arraignment via video on Tuesday, June 4, and his bond was set at $1 million. She faces aggravated murder charges, WJW reports.

In a statement released by police, North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said, “Our thoughts are with the two victims of what appears to be a random act of violence.”

A spokesperson for Giant Eagle was quoted as saying: “We were heartbroken to learn of the death of the young victim in yesterday's senseless act of violence. Our thoughts are with the child, his mother and their loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.
