Ogema man sentenced for smashing windows of brother's van – Detroit Lakes Tribune

DETROIT LAKES — Tabashish Anamiki Ogitchida, formerly known as Benjamin James Bellanger, 47, of rural Ogema, was convicted in Becker County District Court of first-degree criminal damage to property.

According to court records, on the afternoon of October 16, 2022, a White Earth police officer responded to a disturbance at a White Earth residence, where a man had broken the windows of a pickup truck.

The homeowner said he parked his pickup truck, a 2005 Ford F350, at his mother's house in White Earth earlier in the day. And said his brother, Ogitchida, broke his windows and damaged his pickup.

The man showed the officer a Facebook post under Ogitchida's account in which Ogitchida said he was damaging his brother's van. The truck had three damaged windows, as well as a rearview mirror and a turn signal, and numerous windows and various parts of the van were on the ground.

Repairs are expected to cost more than $1,000, making it a criminal offense.

Officers entered the residence and found Ogitchida in a bedroom with an injured hand. An officer detected an overwhelming odor of alcohol coming from Ogitchida, who lived alone at the residence.

On April 8, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced him to 19 months in prison in St. Cloud, suspended for five years. He was sentenced to 85 days in jail, with credit for 85 days served.

He was fined $500 plus $75 in court costs, and ordered not to drink or use drugs, complete a full evaluation, and follow all recommendations, including follow-up . He was placed on supervised probation for five years.

Fargo man convicted of fentanyl pills

Jacob D Hibl, 38, of Fargo, was sentenced in Becker County District Court on fifth-degree felony drug charges and misdemeanor DWI.

According to court records, on the evening of August 12, 2023, a Becker County deputy responded to a traffic complaint regarding a Buick with North Dakota license plates driving erratically on Highway 10 The dispatcher advised the vehicle was parked at the Country Inn and Suites Parking Lot in Detroit Lakes, and the deputy found Hibl still seated in the driver's seat.

Hibl's eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and he showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. He was arrested and his vehicle was searched before being towed, along with a small bag containing 13 blue pills marked “M” and “30”, which are common counterfeit pills containing fentanyl.

On April 8, Becker County District Court Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a stay of proceedings on the crime: successful completion of probation will result in dismissal. He was found guilty of the crime.

For the felony charge, Hibl was sentenced to 56 days in jail, with credit for 56 days served. He was fined $500, plus $75 in court costs.

For the minor offense, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 34 days suspended for two years and credit for the other 56 days served. He was fined $50, plus $100 in court costs.

He was ordered not to drink or use drugs, complete a full evaluation and follow all recommendations, including aftercare, and was placed on supervised probation for five years.
