Officials discuss Kensington drug bust – NBC10 Philadelphia

Law enforcement officials, including members of the U.S. Attorney's Office, ATF, Philadelphia Police and other law enforcement agencies, are expected to detail the charges filed as a result of the dismantling a drug trafficking organization that officials say was operating in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood on Thursday.

Federal agents, local police and other law enforcement officials are expected to discuss charges filed after a failed drug trafficking operation they say was located in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood .

The event will be broadcast live at the top of this story from 10:30am.

Police officials have not yet provided information on the operation, nor have they said how many people were arrested in the incident. But these details are expected to be discussed during the morning event.

Working to improve the Kensington community has been a priority for City Hall since Mayor Cherelle Parker took office.

City councilors also created a caucus aimed at improving the neighborhood.

Earlier this year, the city council passed an 11 p.m. curfew for Kensington businesses that are not allowed to open 24 hours a day.

A plan to improve the area began last month when city workers and police cleared an encampment of about 75 people living in tents along the Kensington Avenue sidewalk.

Last week, officials launched the second phase – the “enforcement phase” – of this plan, focused on strengthening law enforcement to combat violence and drug-related crimes in the community of Kensington.

This is breaking news. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
