Officers arrest two teens for possession of stolen vehicle at Christiana Mall – Delaware State Police

Delaware State Police arrested two teenagers in connection with a motor vehicle theft incident at Christiana Mall Friday evening.

On May 24, 2024, at approximately 7:58 p.m., security officers at Christiana Mall, located at 132 Christiana Mall in Newark, Delaware, observed a stolen Honda Accord driving recklessly in the parking lot. When security officers approached the vehicle, the suspects fled on foot. The vehicle, whose tire and steering column were damaged, became unusable.

The suspects were described as three black teenagers, all wearing black ski masks. Two were dressed in all-black clothing, while a third wore a gray sweatshirt. Police responded to the scene and apprehended two of the three suspects in the shopping center parking lot. The third suspect fled in an unknown direction.

During a search, the 16-year-old suspect was found in possession of approximately 6.18 grams of suspected marijuana and the 14-year-old suspect was found in possession of approximately 3.03 grams of suspected marijuana. Both suspects were transported to Troop 2 and charged with multiple crimes.

The 16-year-old was charged with the offenses listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and committed to Ferris School on $3,030 secured bond.

  • Receiving stolen goods over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Second Degree Conspiracy (Felony)
  • Possession of marijuana among people under 18
  • Criminal mischief over $1,000
  • Resisting arrest

The 14-year-old was charged with the offenses listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and committed to Ferris School on $2,550 secured bond.

  • Receiving stolen goods over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Second Degree Conspiracy (Felony)
  • Possession of marijuana among people under 18
  • Criminal mischief over $1,000
