Officer Involved Shooting at Gas Pro on 301 South in Statesboro, GBI Investigating

The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred Tuesday at the Gas Pro Travel Center on 301 South in Statesboro. After multiple calls about a black Chevrolet Camaro involved in a hit and run, reckless driving, and shots being fired, Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies located the vehicle and suspect parked at a gas pump at the Gas Pro. The suspect had shot at another boss there and then shot at deputies. Deputies returned fire and hit the suspect multiple times. He was pronounced dead at EGRMC, and his body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed. Once the GBI's investigation is complete, it will be given to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.

Georgia State Patrol, Statesboro Police Department, Georgia Southern University Police Dept, Bulloch County EMS and Georgia DOT also responded to assist.

On June 18th at approximately 2:45 p.m. the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office received a call for a motor vehicle accident in the
area of ​​Highway 80E and Burkhalter. The vehicle involved left the scene and a description was transmitted to responding deputies. After this initial call for an accident there were multiple reports that gunshots had been fired from a vehicle fitting the description from the hit and run incident. The suspect vehicle pulled into the Gas Pro Travel Center on Highway 301 South. The offender then reportedly fired shots at a customer who was at the store purchasing fuel. Two Bulloch County Deputies located the offender, who had parked his vehicle at the gas pumps. As deputies attempted to approach him, he fired at one of the deputies. Both deputies returned fire striking the suspect. Georgia State Troopers arrived on the scene immediately to assist the deputies. They begin providing first aid to the suspect who was transported to the EGRMC Emergency Room. No law enforcement officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.

Sheriff Brown stated that his deputies displayed courage and a great deal of professionalism in the way they handled this unfortunate situation. He stated how much he appreciated the quick response of the Georgia State Patrol who got there immediately to assist. Other agencies responding to assist included the Statesboro Police Dept., Georgia Southern University PD, Bulloch County EMS and Ga. DOT Sheriff Brown also expressed how grateful he was that no law enforcement officers or innocent bystanders were injured in this incident.

At this time the investigation has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information about this

At the request of the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Statesboro, GA. One man, identified as Robert Allen Bostic, age 25, of Warner Robins, Georgia, died in the incident. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that on June 18, 2024, at about 2:45 pm, Bulloch County Dispatch received a series of calls about a black Chevrolet Camaro. The calls described four separate incidents, including a hit and run, reckless driving, and shots being fired from the car. Deputies located a car matching the one described in the calls at the Gas Pro Travel Center located at the corner of Highway 301 and AJ Riggs Rd. Before deputies arrived at the Gas Pro, Bostic pointed his gun at a boss who was at a nearby pump . The boss retreated to his vehicle and drove away. Bostic shot at the boss as he fled, hitting the back of the boss's vehicle. When officers arrived, the Camaro was parked at a gas pump. A deputy pulled to the front of the car while another pulled to the rear. Bostic got out of the driver's door and one of the deputies gave commands for Bostic to show his hands. Bostic pulled out a handgun and shot at one of the deputies. Both deputies shot at Bostic, hitting him multiple times.

Bostic was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bostic's body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be given to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
